'NTC' fighters fire at Government troops in Sirte
Tripoli (SaebPress) …Gun battle breaks out in  the Libyan capital Tripoli between residents of Abu Salim district and forces from the NATO backed ‘NTC’.

“Anti-Gaddafi fighters swamped the Nasr neighbourhood of the Abu Salim district in military pick-ups, mounted with heavy weapons, and opened fire on the buildings in the area”, according to a resident of the area. The “residents of the Abu Salim district then returned fire at the ‘NTC’ forces”, the local resident added.

The gun battle broke out after the residents of Abu Salim district in the Libyan capital Tripoli held a demonstration. They chanted pro-Gaddafi slogans, and raised the Libyan green flags  on top of some buildings in support of their Leader  Muammar Gaddafi.

We were protesting the NATO’s occupation of our country “a resident of Abu Salim said.

Meanwhile the ‘NTC’ said fighting had also broken out in the nearby Hadhba neighbourhood of Tripoli. Medics say several people have been injured in the clashes, which sent shock waves through the capital.

Government troops still control large parts of Gaddafi’s home town of Sirte and of the desert town of Bani Walid.

Intense fighting has been raging between government troops and NATO-NTC since mid-February. The deadly conflict has left thousands of people dead and wounded.

NATO backed ‘NTC’ said that at least 25,000 Libyan people had been killed and 50,000 others injured during the months-long conflict.
