Khan Younis, Palestine (SaebPress) – an elderly Palestinian woman, Zakiyya Qudeih, 72, from Khezaa east of Khan Younis; has started a hunger strike in solidarity with Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for 61 days.
Despite her chronic illness, Zakiyya Qudeih, 72, started her hunger strike on Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. She will only take her medicine, but no food.
Zakiyya Qudeih’s son Nidhal Qudeih, “my mother and the whole family had had suffered a lot from the ‘Israeli’ Occupation, five members of our family were detained in ‘Israeli’ military prisons”. Nidhal Qudeih said.
Meanwhile members of Palestinian and political parties, groups and various civil society organizations in Gaza Strip, started an open hunger strike on Wednesday in solidarity with Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for almost 62 days.
Hunger-strikers are gathering at a sit-in tent near the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City.
Adnan Khader’s family to visit him
Adnan Khader’s wife Randa told reporters that she would visit him Wednesday. This will be the second visit Randa pays to her husband. The first visit was when Adnan entered his 53rd day of hunger strike.
The Palestinian Authority said that Israel agreed to its request to let the family of the 62 days hunger striker Adnan Khader to see him, Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh said Wednesday. “The Palestinian Authority making every effort to free Adnan Khader, and the PA will hold Israel responsible for Adnan’s well-being”. Hussein al-Sheikh added.
In 1981, after 59 days on Hunger Strike, Francis Hughes, 25, died in the H Blocks. His cousin, Thomas McElwee, 33, also died on Hunger Strike after 61 days. Today as Khader Adnan entered his 62th day on Hunger Strike; Francis Hughes Brother Oliver joins Tommy McKearney and sends another message of support and solidarity to Palestinian Hunger Striker Khader Adnan and his family.
On Monday 13th February 2012, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a four hour day-time vigil outside the Israel Embassy in Dublin in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoner and hunger striker Khader Adnan.
It is clear that without intervention to secure his release, he will die soon.
