Silencing Press TV is a gruesome reminder of the Spanish inquisition

A prominent political analyst says the British state funded Ofcom [Office of communication] decision to silence Press TV is a gruesome reminder of the Spanish inquisition.
Ofcom, the communications regulator body in the United Kingdom, has finally taken Press TV off air in the UK, in an effort to prevent an alternative voice to be heard inside the country. Press TV talks with political analyst Saeb Shaath, Lezzie Phelanto and Phil Rees, to ask their opinions on the recent Ofcom move.
Shaath believes that, the move is the result of the UK government’s fear of Press TV’s Unbiased News reports, which is considered as a threat to the Zionist entity by the UK and US governments.
What follows is an approximate transcript of the interview.
Press TV: Saeb Shaath, why is Ofcom insistent on this one issue? That it is not funded by the UK [United Kingdom] government when it clearly is?
Shaath: They can say whatever they want, at the same time most of the managers and directors and the people who [are] operating Ofcom they get this job as reward to them as retirement from their TV network or whatever and in here we can see the Zionist Lobby influence in Ofcom and as your previous guest mentioned about Wikileaks, we know the campaign to take Press TV off the air has been going on for years. ‘Israel’ wanted that and the United States of America pushed for that to, of course they can say whatever they want about Ofcom’s decisions.
To me, I see this is a real dark day for freedom of speech and a gruesome reminder of the Spanish inquisition to silence the voice of Press TV which gives a huge number of followers in the UK and EU [European Union] alternative point of view which analyses what is really going on in the world.
That really scared them. Even I see the timing of today in which is finally Press TV taken off the Sky Network with coinciding with the SOPA and PIPA acts in the United States of America to actually, silence a huge part of the internet and to control the Cyber space.
So it is an international imperialist war against the freedom of expression ,all of that is to deny Iran the ability of expressing really what is happening inside Iran, and to show the motives behind the imperialist forces who are preparing to attack a country ,which never for the last three hundred years attacked anyone except defending itself against aggressors.
That is what we see; we see the West is preparing to deny the soft power of Iran explaining to the world what is really going on. And especially they woke up to that since the criminal war on Gaza [part of Palestinian Occupied Land], they have seen the effects of the Press TV by bringing what is really happening, and showing the massacres in Gaza. And that has created a huge support for the Palestinians in Western Europe and we can see the results of it effectively today.
Press TV: When the question of balance comes into place Saeb Shaath, I mean, ok, is there a balance, We have 1300 Palestinians- mostly women and children- dyeing dying in the Gaza Strip, people around the world watching this happen. I mean where is the balance that Ofcom for example as a regulatory body, wants Press TV to follow? What they say that Press TV Limited, which operates out of London its editorial content is controlled in Iran.
First of all how they know that? I mean, put that into perspective for us, what is it that they deem as being balance when they want editorial content to be controlled in essence by them? May be they should give a handbook then and say, these are the kind of topics we should or should not cover?
Shaath: It is the problem I see and they discovered [that] Press TV is really influential in changing the point of views in the West, and they did not create Press TV, they could not influence Press TV. They created a TV station, called Aljazeera in English to contribute to the Western Media the point of view from Middle East and they thought through that kind of a Channel, they can of course dictate what they want and what they see and they get the propaganda through it and through BBC as well as CNN.
They discovered that they cannot. If we look at the social Networks, social Media like Facebook. Look at the links shared between people, you do not see much of Aljazeera or BBC or CNN. You see a lot of video clips and links from Press TV and RT [Russia Today].
These are the two main stations which are popular among people, ordinary people and activists, and that scares them. So, that kind of line, that brings truth to the people about what is going on in Gaza. They created the Aljazeera which the people thought in the Middle East and the West is really radical and suddenly it showed its real face which was a tool to be used to dominate the Middle East. And they want that kind of line which will help them to loot the resources of the Middle East. They want to loot the Iranian Oil now. So how are they going to do it?
When there is a Channel like Press TV that can bring the truth about what is happening in Iran and about the aims of this kind of war. In Gaza, exposing the genocide in that level which Press TV helped in bringing what is really going on home to the UK and the Ireland and the West is really hurting the Zionist entity and is paying a heavy price for that, since a lot of the people in the West now are pro-Palestinians and I mentioned before there has been polls conducted in the UK by poll.gov.uk and they found [that] over nearly 80% are for the government, the British government to recognize the Palestinian state.
So, this is an indication and they want to stop that. They do want to stop the loss which is, and that is all coming from the American PATRIOT act [The title of the act is a ten letter acronym (USA PATRIOT) that stands for Uniting (and) Strengthening America (by) Providing Appropriate Tools Required (to) Intercept (and) Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001], which moved to Europe and started censoring TV organizations, even humanitarian and individuals……

‘Saudis Arabia is not respecting its neighbours’: Commentator
Yemen will enter a new stage to fully reclaim its rights, Saudi Arabia will find itself in a major strategic deadlock and will bear high costs for its aggression.
Commenting to PressTV on Saudi Arabia’s attack on Sana’a International Airport, author and commentator Saeb Shaath said ”Saudi Arabia’s actions destroy neighbours’ trust and destabilize the region”.
Yemen’s Foreign Ministry in Sana’a has condemned Saudi Arabia’s attack on Sana’a International Airport, saying that the strike marks the end of the truce and the beginning of a new phase of war.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry declared that Yemen will enter a new stage to fully reclaim its rights, warning that Saudi Arabia will find itself in a major strategic deadlock and will bear high costs for its aggression.
Separately, the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, stated that “the Saudi aggression will not go unpunished,” adding, “The Saudi enemy has ended the de-escalation phase, and must bear responsibility for all potential consequences.”
The Yemeni Ministry of Transport announced in a statement that “Saudi Arabia’s bombardment of Sana’a airport and violation of the Yemeni airspace signifies the Riyadh regime’s insistence, with Americans’ and Zionists’ push, to continue the siege.”
On March 26, 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies initiated a blockade on Yemen, marking the beginning of a comprehensive war, backed with military, political, and logistical assistance from the United States and other Western countries.
The war has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of people in Yemen, while failing to achieve its primary goal of reinstating the previous government that was aligned with Riyadh.
Amid a power struggle, the government fled the country, leading Yemen’s popular resistance movement, Ansarullah, to take charge of state affairs.
After a delicate ceasefire brokered by the UN in 2022, multiple rounds of significant attacks were launched against Yemen by the United States, Britain, and the Israeli regime.
The assaults aimed to weaken Sana’a’s ability to conduct solidarity strikes against Israeli targets, which were being conducted in response to Tel Aviv’s genocidal actions in the Gaza Strip.

He also examines how Ayatollah Khamenei’s leadership helped unite diverse resistance movements around a common anti-imperialist agenda and what this legacy could mean for the future of the region.
